Lush, colorful, eclectic and full of surprises, this eastern Caribbean nation is an island made for romance.
A perfect day here could include enjoying the spectacular views at Smugglers Beach; discovering the island’s history at Pigeon Island National Landmark; hiking up one of the Pitons, the verdant volcanoes that are St. Lucia’s most recognizable landmarks; soaking in the volcanic waters and getting painted in mineral-rich mud at Sulphur Springs Park, the Caribbean’s only “drive-in volcano.”
Banana Ketchup is truly an unorthodox product with an exotic tropical flavor. St. Lucian bananas are combined with local spices to create this tropical blend. Perfect with steamed or boiled shellfish, fries, bar-b-que, or anything that goes with traditional tomato ketchup.
Ironically, I was introduced to this lovely condiment in St. Kitts, at a beachside restaurant, as part of an AMAZING seafood platter. The dip was like nothing I had ever tasted. So, I asked the chef what was going on with that crazy concoction. The secret ingredient? Banana Ketchup. I looked everywhere and asked everyone about the ketchup but to no avail. It was only upon researching, that I learned banana ketchup, in the Caribbean, only comes from St. Lucia.
Popular resort destinations in St. Lucia:
Northern bays – close to the capital city of Castries, home to larger established all-inclusive resorts and great off-hotel shopping. Fabulous beach, water sports, and ultimate relaxation
Southern island – closer to the main international airport and world-famous Piton peaks. Home to smaller, more secluded resorts, with a focus on nature and adventure.
